Bladerunner 2049

Introduction

This was seen at Reading Cinema with 2 friends after a good dinner.

Ethos

  • I heard this was made by a strong team with lots of money.
  • Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford are the big names, obviously.

Pathos

  • General cyberpunk vibe: the raining cities, dust over the sky, nuclear bomb remnant
  • Strong Japanese influence in the US for some reason
  • The holographic AI girlfriend, and its much bigger version
  • Little japanese shops
  • The Peugeut automobile
  • Good looking guns
  • Actors/actresses were good looking
  • Movie title fonts and colours
  • Sometimes noises are a bit too much

Logos

  • The main clue was to “find that child”
  • Obvious nuclear war happened years ago, from the long-lasting dark sky and radioactive Las Vegas, a random place to bomb.
  • The ending was a bit unsatisfying.
  • The acting of that scary lady was meh.
  • The boss’ bilateral cataract need treatment.
  • Artificial intelligence and network security was fundamentally incorrect.
  • Did not show the life of normal human (non-replicants).
  • Did not explain the rationale for using replicants cf. AI machines, which looked quite capable already.
  • Single DNA nucleotide comparison to identify people was not very convincing.
  • At the start, everyone was a radiologist!

Conclusion

  • Good movie, worth watching just for the cyberpunk vibe, and the hologrpahic girlfriend.
